BDCC Meth Lab Awareness Education
Meth labs have become a serious problem in our area. As production becomes easier to do and get away with over time, the problem will only get worse.
Methamphetamines act as stimulants on the Central Nervous System. It is produced in a powder form that can be taken in a variety of ways. It has a variety of street names - speed, crank, ice, etc. Meth users are accompanied by a variety of symptoms and behavior patterns. Just a sampling - highs last for 12 hours with hyperactivity, rapid heart rate, aggressiveness, restlessness and decreased attention span. "Crashes" are accompanied by paranoia, exhaustion, sleepiness, depression and mental confusion. High behavior is reflected by unfinished projects around the house, high volume of short stay traffic, and having trash lying around (look for propane tanks, battery cells and ammonia odors).
Production requires the dumping of numerous toxic substances, which will lead to ecological disaster in the long run. As production has become a portable operation in a relatively short amount of time, many are resorting to isolated places like forested areas where there are not many people around. Those without transportation have resorted to their own bathrooms or kitchens. As a result, chemicals get dumped into our sewers and ditches, which in turn continues to the ground and our water systems. Don't forget, this is the same water we bathe and cook with every day!
