As a supplement to regular food banks in our community, we have our own emergency food bank to serve those who cannot access the regular food banks for whatever reason. Clients come in for a variety of reasons - not enough gas in the car to get to the regular food banks, don't have transportation to downtown Enumclaw or north Maple Valley, clients are working during normal food bank hours, etc. Since our business hours are from Monday to Friday, 8am-4:30pm (sometimes later if we're still working on something), we will serve any low-income client when they come in so they will have enough food to last them a couple days until they can make other arrangements.
In addition to giving them food, we also provide clients with a list of the regular food banks in the area with their locations, hours and contact information. Depending on household size, our food bags usually consist of canned and dried goods - bagged cereal for the children, oatmeal packets, packages of dried milk, canned meals, vegetables, tomato products, chili, beans, tuna, spaghetti, pasta mixes, rice mixes, canned fruit for the children and seniors, boxes of macaroni and cheese, etc.
We also have fresh produce and bread available each day. All low income clients are eligible for services; all we ask is that we see a piece of positive ID. We serve clients from Black Diamond, Ravensdale, Green River Gorge, Green Valley, Maple Valley, Covington, Enumclaw, and the Auburn-Black Diamond Road area.
