When school is out, we offer a variety of programs for the children of low-income families in the Black Diamond area.
The main component of this program involves serving lunch at the Cedar Brook Mobile Home Park at noon Monday thru Friday. The menu changes each day. Deli meat sandwiches are served on Mondays and Wednesdays, tuna sandwiches are served on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and hot dogs are served on Fridays. Fresh fruit and milk is also served with the lunches.
The Black Diamond Fire Department and Police Department come to the lunch site each Tuesday at 12:30 to talk to the kids about a variety of safety issues - personal, fire, health, just to name a few.
Ten youth are offered a chance of a lifetime each Wednesday - they get to go on field trips for free! We go to some pretty neat places, like the Point Defiance Zoo, Pacific Science Center, North West Trek, just to name a few. Youth must sign up by Monday of each week to ensure a spot on the van. Lunches will be served during the field trips.
Thursdays are Arts and Crafts Days. A BDCC staff member will escort ten youth from the lunch program up to the Black Diamond Elementary School at 1pm. Even if a child is not very creative, these sessions are very fun and educational!
